69th Anniversary of D-Day
Jun 6, 2013
Today, June 6th, marks the 69th anniversary of the United States invasion of Normandy, otherwise known as D-Day. On this day, the Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy and parachuted behind enemy lines—beginning their march across Europe to defeat Hitler. One of the units that jumped that morning into Normandy was the 506th Infantry Regiment. I was honored to walk in their footsteps as a platoon leader with the 506th in Baghdad. The world will forever be indebted to the brave soldiers who fought that day, for they exhibited the highest amount of courage.
I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory! –General Dwight D. Eisenhower
