Restoring Cuts to Military Pensions
Tuesday, the House rightly voted reverse the recent and unjust cuts to veterans' pensions in a fiscally responsible manner. Our troops have sacrificed repeatedly to defend our country and, of all groups, they should have never been singled out for retroactive pension cuts. I was pleased to see the Senate pass this legislation on Wednesday and I urge the President to sign it into law immediately. Click here to read my full statement.
Q&A with Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen
Tuesday, I questioned Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen during a House Financial Services Committee hearing about the impact of Federal Reserve’s overly accommodative monetary policies on retirees’ savings and investments. After showing a testimonial from retired Navy Commander Joe Famme, I invited Chair Yellen to participate in a town hall on the topic in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, one of the largest retirement communities in the southeast. Click here for selected excerpts and to watch the Q&A.
Monday, I had a great meeting with the Arkansas Council of Prison Locals to discuss some of the issues they face. It was also great to see members of the Arkansas Prosecuting Attorneys Association (APAA) in D.C. We also had the Arkansas Rural Water Association, Dr. John English, Dean of the University of Arkansas’s College of Engineering, and representatives from the Arkansas National Guard all stop by the office this week.
