Honor Flight: This past Saturday, 78 of Arkansas’s World War II Veterans were flown to Washington, D.C. as part of the Honor Flight program to tour the World War II Monument. It was wonderful to take greet these veterans and tour the monument with them. While I was in a solider in the Army at The Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery I had the opportunity to provide a military escort to several of these Honor Flights. I was very grateful to be able to take part in the experience again. Click here to see more photos from this great day.
Honoring the Families of Fallen Soldiers Act: Prior to the government shut down last week Congress passed legislation allowing troops to be paid during a shut down. This bill provided President broad authority to fund Department of Defense activities—including paying benefits to the families of our fallen soldiers. Unfortunately, the administration interpreted the law unreasonably to deny these death benefits. This week the House passed legislation to ensure these families receive those death benefits. The Senate passed this bill yesterday and I am hopeful the President will sign it into law swiftly.
Funding our Government: I have been working to resolve this situation and reopen the government as soon as possible. In the meantime, the House has passed several bills to fund some of the most important government agencies and programs. Unfortunately, these individual bills are stalled in the United States Senate. Click here for a full list of this legislation.
Arkansas National Guard: This week, the Department of Defense announced that the 700 members of the Arkansas National Guard and dual-status military technicians placed on furlough as a result of the government shut down would return to work. I am grateful this situation was resolved quickly.
Calls and Emails: Just a friendly reminder that my office is answering all phone calls and emails despite government shut down. I encourage you to reach out and express your opinion. Please visit the contact me section of my website for contact information.
